Here's a refined version: --- I stumbled upon this spot by accident, but what a fantastic surprise it turned out to be! The white egg tarts were delicious--the first thing I noticed was that they weren't overly sweet, which, as any Asian will tell you, is a great sign. I also tried a few pineapple buns, both with BBQ pork and custard. The buns were buttery and flaky, with generous, well-balanced fillings. This place is a 5-star find if you're looking for a great Chinese bakery. P.S. The lady working there was kind enough to tell me I could wait a few minutes for a fresh batch. Always ask if they have fresh egg tarts!

I got the baked pork bun from here during a Chinatown food tour, which was pretty good. I recently wanted more pork buns and egg tart, so I picked up some things from here. * Pineapple pork bun (4.5/5). It had a good amount of meat and sauce with not too much dough. The pineapple bun crust wasn't super noticeable with the meat filling, but it was a nice bonus. * Egg tart (4/5). It was pretty big with a light custard flavor and soft crust. * Green tea red bean bun (4/5). It was mostly a red bean bun with a faint green tea flavor in the dough. Overall, this is a solid place for Chinese bakery goods.

I love the egg tarts here. They are by far and away my favourite in all of SF china town perhaps all of SF or even California! The egg white tart is the perfect "not to sweet" dessert that my old asian parents and I crave. The egg custard tart is also a classic as it beautifully melts on your tongue resulting in a flavour explosion. They do open a little later than the signage though so don't go expecting immediate service. They take card as well. Small store cluttered with newspaper and junk but you're here for the to-go quick service of delicious baked dim sum goods. Another hit are the pineapple buns!

I love their yellow egg tarts. I love them when I am lucky enough to have them fresh out of their oven. However, they should have left the egg tarts in a cooling rack rather than an warming oven. I did not like those tarts one bit until they are completely cooled. Afterwards, I love them again. The tarts are still good the next day. On the other hand, I don't like their buns at all. I prefer those from AA Bakery way more.

The pineapple bbq pork bun here IS SO GOOD!! The charsiu meat inside is juicy and the bun is the perfect level of fluffiness. The crust is also crispy!! There's always a line when we come by but it goes by in like 5-7 minutes. They take card as well :)

OMG AMAZING BOU LOU BAOS so damn good I had 3 in one day. They are super cheap as well. The perfect amount of sweetness, crunchiness, and softness all in this perfectly warmed bun JUST SO GOOD. cash only bring cash

Get over it Golden Gate Bakery. If you're a Dan Tat fan - try Yummy Bakery. I really like their egg white Dan Tats- especially when they just come out of the oven. We also like the Pineapple BBQ bun. When you're in the city and am in CT, give them a try.

Don't want to wait a long time at Golden Gate Bakery? Come here instead lol. While Yummy Bakery tends to play second fiddle to its neighbor Golden Gate, it's still a solid bakery on its own. Got one pineapple bun and 2 egg tarts, which came out to $6.50. Both were decent, but not overly memorable. Service is kind of chaotic, so know exactly what you want, or face the wrath of the cashiers, who don't have the time or patience for you to dillydally on your order.

Yummy Bakery and Cafe, located in Chinatown, off of Jackson. Can't miss the purple awning. My husband and I were walking in Chinatown and discovered that Golden Gate Bakery is closed (for good too, which I had suspected that it was closed the last time I was in San Francisco but wasn't entirely sure until now) and so we decided to stop by this bakery for egg tarts (my husband saw that this bakery was highly rated on Yelp so we went). We came in last Friday afternoon, around 2:45 pm. We waited in a short line and ended up purchasing: Egg Tart- My husband ended up ordering 3 of these. I didn't see any egg tart in the bakery case and so I asked the employee in Chinese (please note that the employee helping us also does speak English) if there were any egg tarts left. She said yes and asked how many. Then she walked over this heated baking rack and pulled out three. The egg tard was actually a pretty big size and was a fair size for the two of us to share since we wanted to give the other two to a our friends (one of our friends ate it and he really liked it and thought it was nice that it wasn't too sweet either, although he is used to desserts being much sweeter). The egg tart was warm and really good. Please note that they also see egg white egg tarts, which does interest me and may consider trying that next time. Black Sesame Walnut Bun- I love black sesame and so I decided to get this bun. I didn't eat it until the next day. The bread was tender and soft. The black sesame paste inside with walnut was really nice and wasn't too sweet. Both my husband and I enjoyed this. ----------------------------- (Total= $10.25) I paid cash for my order because I saw a sign by their register that there is a 2.5% transaction fee if you pay with credit card. Service was fast. English and Cantonese is spoken here so ordering should not be a problem. Will definitely come back to this bakery again the next time I visit this Chinatown.
